Flooding Forces Hundreds to Evacuate North Macedonia
The Kichevo region, situated approximately 110 kilometres southwest of the capital Skopje, bore the brunt of the destruction, according to the Red Cross in North Macedonia. Some 230 residents were urgently evacuated Sunday after relentless downpours caused waterways to burst their banks, inundating homes and leaving a trail of property damage in their wake.
Emergency response teams and volunteers have since mobilised across affected areas, distributing food, water, hygiene supplies, and other essential aid to displaced residents.
The crisis extended beyond Kichevo, with flooding reported across other parts of the country. The Tetovo region was also struck, where a landslide prompted traffic suspension, further complicating relief and recovery efforts.
Authorities have not yet released a full damage assessment as emergency operations remain ongoing.
